2. Licensing and Certifications

Before you sit at anyone’s kitchen table, these have to be done. None of them are optional, and the carriers check.

  • Texas life insurance license. Your state license comes first; nothing else counts without it.
  • AML course. Anti-money-laundering training, required every year. Put the renewal date in your calendar the day you finish it.
  • Lone Star Mutual final expense certification. Online, about an hour. Required before Lone Star pays you on final expense business.
  • Amistad Life mortgage protection certification. Required when your Amistad contract is added in month two.

If a carrier offers a product certification, do it before you try to write that product. A missing cert means the carrier holds your commission, and finding that out after the sale is the painful way.
